Sydney Barthorpe.  4975425,  Sherwood Forresters,  POW 343.

Sydney was captured in Norway,  transported by lorry to Oslo then ship through Copenhagen to the Kiel Kanal and Hamburg.  Train to Berlin then on to Poznan.  He was taken to Fort 8 a ring of forts called 'The Khundorf'  spending a few weeks there,  then on to Fort Winiary Poznan.  Sieradz followed, then on to BAB21 Blechhammer in early 1942.

Sydney drove the camp bulldozer at BAB21,  on the times he would exit the camp driving the bulldozer, he was the only man who could leave the camp without a guard affording plenty of opportunity to bring in contraband.  The men at BAB21 had two radios one of which was hidden in a small cave dug by the prisoners, the cave also was the hiding place of 'Raisin Hooch' made from contents of the Red Cross parcels.

Hauptman Gruppen Fuhrer [equivalent Sgt Major] in BAB 21 was nick named Donald Duck.
